56-year-old man sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment in 2018 POCSO case

A Special Court for cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in Chengalpattu has convicted and sentenced a 56-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for committing aggravated penetrative sexual assault on a six-year-old girl in 2018.

The police said that on July 2, 2018, the six-year-old child was forcibly taken by R. Narayanan of Tirusulam, when she went to play near his house in Pallavaram. Based on a complaint given by the child’s parents, the All-Women Police arrested Narayanan and booked a case against him under Section 366 (Abduction) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 (Punishment of aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act. After completing the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused in the special court in Chengalpattu in August 2019.
