Visitors can now travel to Thrissur Zoological Park at Puthoor on a double-decker bus operated by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), enjoying panoramic views of the city and the open sky along the way.
The new service was flagged off jointly by Revenue and Housing Minister K. Rajan and Transport Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kumar said the zoological park is a project with immense potential. He expressed hope that the park would grow into a major centre for research in wildlife studies as well.
Mr. Rajan said that the park is not just about housing animals but is an exceptional natural learning space. He also said that KSRTC, which once struggled with losses, is now moving forward through innovative initiatives such as travel trips and tourism-based services that are helping the corporation generate revenue.
The double-decker bus itself reflects the cultural identity of Thrissur. Its design features iconic elements such as Thrissur Pooram, Pulikali, Chendamelam, Panchavadyam, Kathakali, Mohiniyattam and wildlife motifs, symbolising the city’s vibrant traditions and connection with nature.
The bus will operate two services daily from Thrissur to the zoological park, at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Passengers can enjoy a leisurely ride taking in the cityscape, travel through the park surroundings and return to Thrissur on the same service.
