Habitual offender convicted for sexually assaulting 15-year-old boy

The Thiruvananthapuram Fast Track Special Court on Friday found a 65-year-old man guilty of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

Special Judge Anju Meera Birla found Jayakumar alias Jayan, 65, of Muttathara, guilty of the crime. He had previously served a seven-year prison term for sexually assaulting a mentally challenged woman in 2012. The court will likely pronounce the sentence on Saturday.

According to the prosecution led by Special Public Prosecutor R.S. Vijay Mohan, the incident occurred on April 8, 2025. The survivor was walking alone when the accused, who was sitting by the roadside, beckoned him. The boy, who was acquainted with the accused as he had seen him visiting his house for work, approached him unsuspectingly.

The accused allegedly shook hands with the boy, pulled him closer and sexually assaulted him. He also warned the minor not to disclose the incident to anyone.

The child shared his ordeal to his father’s friends who were standing nearby and later informed his father. The Vanchiyoor police subsequently registered a case.
