According to Bollywood Hungama, Jigra is inspired by Gumrah, which starred Sanjay Dutt and Sridevi and was produced by Yash Johar. This 1993 release narrated the story of a man who went to great lengths to save his lover, who was imprisoned in a foreign country. Jigra is a tale of a sister who will go to extreme lengths to protect her brother.
