In the Hyderabad Commissionerate limits, 506 motorists were booked during a two-day special drive. Officials stated that there would be zero tolerance towards drunk driving violations and that special drives would continue.
In the Cyberabad Commissionerate limits, 281 offenders were apprehended during a weekend drive. During the week from February 23 to February 28, 218 drunk driving cases were disposed of in courts, with 13 persons awarded fine and jail, five awarded fine and social service, and 200 let off with fine only.
In the Malkajgiri Commissionerate, 299 offenders were booked in a weekend special drive. During the week from February 23 to February 28, 265 drunk driving cases were disposed of in courts in Malkajgiri Commissionerate. Of these, six persons were awarded fine and jail, five were given fine and social service, and 254 were let off with fine only.
Police in all three commissionerates reiterated that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence and warned that if an inebriated driver causes a fatal accident, the individual will be booked under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years along with a fine. All offenders will be produced before the court.
