Life History and Career

In 2011, Srikanth Bolla co-founded the Samanvai Center for Children with Multiple Disabilities, which includes a Braille printing press. This center offers various services like education, job training, financial support, and rehabilitation to help students with multiple disabilities lead independent and self-sufficient lives.

In 2012, Bolla established Bollant Industries with funding from Ratan Tata. The company manufactures eco-friendly products made from areca and recycled materials, providing employment opportunities to hundreds of people with disabilities. Bollant’s range includes recycled Kraft paper, packaging products, disposable items from natural leaves and recycled paper, and transforming waste plastic into usable products. Since its inception, Bollant has experienced remarkable growth, averaging a 20% increase in revenue each month and achieving a turnover of ₹150 crores in 2018.

#Srikanth also serves as the director of the Surge Impact Foundation, founded in 2016, which aims to help individuals and institutions in India achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Forbes magazine recognized Bolla’s contributions by naming him one of Asia’s 30 under 30 in April 2017, making him one of only three Indians on the list.

Born visually impaired in 1991 in Seetharamapuram, Andhra Pradesh, Srikanth Bolla faced obstacles but excelled academically. Despite initial resistance, he pursued science and topped his class with 98% in his XII board exams. Denied admission to coaching institutes for the Indian Institute of Technology due to his blindness, he later attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, becoming its first international blind student. A youth leader since 2005, he joined Lead India 2020, a movement aimed at making India a developed nation by 2020, led by former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
