Son of Sardar 2 or Dhadak 2, Which is the Box Office Winner? Know the Box Office Report

Box Office

Two sequels, Son of Sardar 2 and Dhadak 2, hit theatres this Friday (August 1), entering an already crowded box office battle. With Ajay Devgn returning as Jassi in Son of Sardar 2, and fresh faces like Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri leading Dhadak 2, expectations were high — but did either film live up to the hype?

A Tough Release Window

While Son of Sardar 2 has the advantage of a strong brand value, both films released at a time when two other movies were already dominating the charts — YRF’s Saiyaara and the surprise hit Mahavatar Narsimha. Even two weeks post-release, Saiyaara continues to draw crowds and has collected a massive Rs 284.76 crore domestically. Meanwhile, Mahavatar Narsimha, now in its second week, made a solid Rs 11.57 crore on Friday alone.

Opening Day Box Office Report

Despite the competition, Son of Sardar 2 managed a respectable start with an estimated Rs 6.75 crore on Day 1. The film saw steady growth in occupancy throughout the day — morning shows had 10.24% turnout, afternoon at 17.88%, evening at 21.84%, and night shows peaked at 40.27%. Overall Hindi occupancy on Friday was 22.56%, indicating fair word-of-mouth traction.

On the other hand, Dhadak 2 had a lukewarm response, earning only around Rs 3 crore on its opening day. The sequel to the 2018 romantic drama failed to match up to its predecessor’s buzz and box office pull.

Advance Bookings & Competition

Advance booking figures were also underwhelming. Son of Sardar 2 sold about 28,000 tickets, while Dhadak 2 lagged behind at 18,000 tickets. The release of Mahavatar Narsimha added unexpected competition, even eating into the collections of Saiyaara, which until now was having a dream run.

Critical Response and Public Reaction

Son of Sardar 2 received mixed reactions from audiences and critics alike. However, The Free Press Journal gave it a 3.5-star rating, calling it “a hilarious film that will surely tickle your funny bone.” Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, the movie marks his Bollywood debut after a successful run in Punjabi cinema. The ensemble cast features Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Neeru Bajwa, Deepak Dobriyal, Chunky Panday, and Kubbra Sait.

Meanwhile, Dhadak 2 is struggling to find its footing. While it may get some attention over the weekend from the younger crowd due to Saiyaara‘s popularity, initial reports suggest that the content might not be strong enough to sustain the buzz.

Who’s Winning the Box Office?

As of now, Son of Sardar 2 is clearly ahead of Dhadak 2 at the box office, both in terms of collections and occupancy. But when compared to Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha, both new releases are far behind.

Unless there’s a major turnaround over the weekend, it seems Son of Sardar 2 might survive with a moderate run, while Dhadak 2 risks fading out quickly. The coming days will be crucial for both films.
