Two arrested for murdering teenager, setting body ablaze

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly bludgeoning a 17-year-old boy to death and setting his body on fire near north-west Delhi’s Majlis Park metro station in an attempt to destroy evidence, the police said on Friday.

The accused have been identified as Gaurav alias Kaliya, 30, a resident of Azadpur Village, and Vinay, 25, who lives in a Lal Bagh jhuggi cluster. According to police, the killing was carried out to avenge the murder of Mr. Gaurav’s neighbour, Deepak, whom he referred to as his uncle. Police said Mr. Gaurav had planned the murder after suspecting the teenager’s involvement in Deepak’s death. The charred body was discovered on February 12 near Majlis Park metro station but remained unidentified until February 16, when his parents visited the Adarsh Nagar police station and recognised his photograph displayed on the notice board under the “unidentified persons” section.
